FRUIT Usually red, sometimes orange or yellow berries, on the female plants. Male plants do not produce berries. Inedible.
COMMENTS Small tree that is good for a specimen plant, privacy screen, or hedge. Slow growth rate. The crown is densely branched with leaves that are glossy and small. The trunk has attractive grey-white bark. The leaves are the highest in caffeine of any North American plant, and could medicinally induce vomiting. Provides a habitat for wildlife. The berries produced by female trees are a significant food source for creatures throughout the Winter. Native to Florida.
