WATERING REQUIREMENTS Newly planted trees should receive water three times a week for 1 month, then water once a week for the next 2 months. Water the tree during hot months, especially periods of drought. Avoid over-watering and causing soggy soil.

FERTILIZING Sparingly apply fertilizer once or twice just before flowering, and once or twice after fruit harvest. For young trees, use a slow release 10-20-20. For mature trees, use a 6-6-6 or a 5-8-10. Magnesium should also be applied at least once a year. Halt fertilizing in the Winter, then begin again in the Spring. Avoid getting fertilizer on the leaves and trunk. Water before and after applying fertilizer.
FLOWER Showy, erect, red-stemmed branches bear pyramidal flower cluster panicles with several hundred small flowers. Pollination is carried out by flies, wasps, and bees. Flowers are tiny with 5 petals, and are white, yellow, or red.
MONTH OF COLOR December to April
FRUIT Elongated with a prominent ‘beak’. Yellow exterior with green spots. Interior is yellow with little fiber. Has a powerful and pleasant aroma, and very sweet flavor.
TOXICITY Sap from the trunk and branches are a potential skin irritant. People rarely have an allergy to mangoes. Flowers emit a volatile substance, causing allergic and respiratory problems for some people. Mango wood should never be used in fireplaces or for cooking fuel, as its smoke is highly irritant.
COMMENTS This early to midseason variety may yield multiple crops throughout the year. The most popular mango species in Thailand, the country it originates from. Trees can stay short with regular pruning.
